Reimagining the possibilities of eyewear, starting with the material itself.
Sino Optical continues to explore the use of different sustainable materials in eyewear design and manufacturing. This year, we are introducing our new Recycled Fishing Net Eyewear Collection, featuring recycled nylon made from recovered fishing nets across a variety of sunglass styles. From everyday lifestyle designs and outdoor eyewear to more wrapped, performance-inspired sport styles, the collection demonstrates that sustainable materials do not have to be limited to a single look or product category.
This will also be one of the key collections we showcase at our upcoming exhibition in Japan. Through this series, we hope to show brands and designers that eco-conscious materials can offer more than environmental value—they can also be developed into eyewear with strong market appeal, functionality, and distinctive design.
From Recycled Fishing Nets to New Eyewear
The concept behind recycled fishing net eyewear is to recover used fishing nets, process and regenerate the material, and transform them into recycled nylon that can be used again in new product development.
Materials that have already completed their original life cycle can, through reprocessing and thoughtful design, return to everyday use in a new form. This gives eyewear an added story of circularity, resource reuse, and sustainable design.
At Sino Optical, we believe sustainable materials should be more than just a material label. Our goal is to make them truly applicable across different eyewear designs, consumer segments, and market positions.
New Recycled Fishing Net Eyewear Collection
For this new collection, we selected several styles with different design directions to highlight the versatility of recycled fishing net materials across both lifestyle and sport eyewear.
Clean Square Frames with a Sporty Edge

Featuring a clean square-frame proportion, this design has a simple, modern look with a subtle sporty character.
Because the frame does not appear overly technical or performance-driven, it works well as an everyday sunglass style, an outdoor lifestyle option, or as part of a brand’s sustainable lifestyle collection.
By incorporating recycled fishing net material, the minimalist design gains an additional sustainability story, giving brands greater flexibility to balance aesthetics with eco-conscious concepts.
Retro-Inspired Shapes Bring a Fashionable Edge to Sustainable Materials

This style presents a completely different design direction. With a softer silhouette and retro-inspired frame shape, combined with tortoiseshell tones, it leans more toward lifestyle and fashion sunglasses.
This style is a good example of a concept we have long wanted to communicate: sustainable materials do not have to result in products that look overtly “eco-friendly.”
Through thoughtful use of color, texture, and frame design, recycled materials can also be developed into eyewear collections with strong fashion appeal and distinctive brand character.
Wrap-Around Designs for Outdoor and Sport Markets

Featuring a more wrapped square silhouette, this style has a stronger outdoor and sport-inspired look compared with typical lifestyle sunglasses.
The wider frame proportions and side profile create a more dynamic, performance-oriented appearance. It also demonstrates that recycled fishing net materials can be used not only in casual eyewear, but also across outdoor and sport-oriented product collections.
For brands developing Outdoor, Fishing, Cycling, or Active Lifestyle lines, this design offers another direction for incorporating sustainability into performance-inspired eyewear.
Classic Square Frames for Everyday Lifestyle

This is one of the more classic and easy-to-wear styles in the collection. The bold square frame and clean lines create a casual, versatile look that can be easily incorporated into everyday outfits.
For brands introducing recycled fishing net materials for the first time, a familiar and widely accepted frame shape like this makes it easier to integrate sustainability into an existing product line without significantly changing the brand’s established design language.
One Material, More Than One Style
From retro tortoiseshell frames and minimalist square silhouettes to wrap-around sport designs, this new collection demonstrates how the same sustainable material concept can be developed across a wide range of product styles.
Brands can further customize frame shapes, colors, lenses, logos, and packaging according to their own market positioning, developing recycled fishing net materials into a distinctive collection that reflects their brand identity.
Sustainability does not mean every product has to look the same. The real opportunity lies in making the material itself part of the design while still preserving the unique character of each brand.
Sustainable Eyewear Can Start with More Than Just the Frame
In addition to recycled nylon made from fishing nets, Sino Optical continues to explore the application of other recycled, bio-based, and environmentally conscious materials in eyewear development.
Brands can also extend their sustainability efforts to other product details, including lenses, eyewear cases, pouches, cleaning cloths, and packaging, gradually building a more complete Sustainable Eyewear Collection.
Starting with a single pair of eyewear, sustainability does not have to remain just a concept. It can become a practical part of product design and development.
